Barangay kagawad faces homicide raps
MANILA, Philippines – A newly proclaimed barangay kagawad or councilman in Parañaque was accused of allegedly killing a barangay peace officer or “lupong tagapamayapa.”
Rey Advincula, who won as kagawad of Barangay Moonwalk in the Oct. 25 polls, was charged with homicide along with barangay watchman Rolando Agustin.
In an affidavit, Divina Joy Araneta, widow of victim Albert Araneta, said she saw the accused shoot her husband at around 4 p.m. on Oct. 29. Albert was comatose for two days before he died.
Divina said her husband was trying to prevent the accused from destroying a fence being constructed in their barangay. She said her husband and Advincula engaged in a verbal tussle when Agustin suddenly pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the body.
