Carjackers' getaway car stolen last month - QCPD

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - A sport utility vehicle (SUV) used by carjackers in a heist last Friday in Quezon City was stolen last month, a police official said yesterday.

Chief Inspector Rodelio Marcelo, head of the Anti-Carnapping Section of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said the black Toyota Fortuner (ZFV-397) used by the robbers in the latest carjacking incident in Quezon City was taken from its occupants in Putatan, Muntinlupa City last Oct. 29.

The occupants of the Fortuner were later on dropped off in Kawit, Cavite, according to Marcelo.

Last Friday morning, the SUV was used by the carjackers in staging another hit, this time in Barangay Ugong Norte in Quezon City and taking away a white Mitsubishi Montero and kidnapping a couple and their daughter.

The couple earlier picked up their daughter, who is in her 20s, from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after she flew in from the United States.

Police said the victims were going through C-5 Road’s northbound lane and on their way home when the carjackers’ Fortuner bumped their Montero, which hit the curb in front of a cake shop in Barangay Ugong Norte.

The suspects reportedly dragged the daughter from the family car and forced her into the robbers’ SUV before the two cars took off in the direction of Pasig City. The daughter was eventually dumped along Pedro Gil Street in Manila. The elderly couple was dropped off in Parañaque City.

Aside from the victims’ SUV, the suspects allegedly divested their victims of P50,000 and jewelry, laptops and other valuables.

According to Marcelo, they are now focusing their investigation on a group believed to be targeting those coming from the NAIA.

Marcelo believes the Fortuner would be abandoned and the Montero used by the carjackers.
