188 traffic violators arrested

MANILA, Philippines - Some 188 persons were arrested in Malabon City following a weeklong operation conducted by a composite team of police and local law enforcers against traffic violators in the city, report said yesterday.

Ferdy Tengson, Action officer of Oplan Disiplina said members of those apprehended have traffic offenses ranging from driving without license, non-wearing of helmet while driving motorcycles and under the influence of liquor.

A number of drivers were taken to the city’s police headquarters for questioning for failing to show the registration papers of their motorcycles, as well as several others for ignoring the enforcers’ checkpoint.

Corresponding charges as provided for, under existing laws and city ordinances were lodged against some while most of them were made to pay fines as penalties for committing simple traffic violations.
