Taguig mayor told: Stick to issues
MANILA, Philippines - Taguig City Vice Mayor George Elias cried foul against the camp of Mayor Laarni Cayetano for insinuating that he and his allied councilors were mere puppets of the previous administration.
Elias, in a statement, said that the criminal and administrative cases they filed against the mayor and her city administrator Joel Montales were not politically motivated.
He said it stemmed from the alleged harassment they’ve received from the Cayetano camp for padlocking their session hall and offices.
“Let’s stick to the issues at hand. The cases we have filed against Cayetano and Montales are strong. They better shape up,” Elias said.
Elias is an ally of the Tiñga political clan whose patriarch, former Supreme Court Associate Justice Dante Tiñga, lost to Cayetano in a hotly contested election last May.
Cayetano was the only one in her ticket to win in the May 10 polls.
Last week, Elias and their allied councilors asked the Ombudsman for Cayetano and Montales’ 90-day preventive suspension for allegedly preventing them from conducting their weekly sessions.
