Woman killed by man wearing towel

- Nestor Etolle -

MANILA, Philippines - A 38-year-old woman was attacked in a pedicab in Tondo, Manila Monday by an unidentified man wearing a towel to hide his face.

Despite a stab wound in the chest, vendor Irma de Paz managed to tell the pedicab driver to bring her to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival, according to Manila Police District’s homicide section chief Inspector Armando Macaraeg.

The pedicab driver told Macaraeg that they were passing through an alley near Katuparan Condominium in Vitas when a man suddenly lunged at them and stabbed De Paz.

Macaraeg said the driver failed to get a close look at the attacker, who walked away after stabbing the victim.

“It seems the suspect was in ambush position inside the alley and presumably waiting for the victim,” Macaraeg said, adding the police have yet to determine the motive for the slaying.

Investigators will invite the victim’s girlfriend for questioning.
