Caloocan turns to biometrics to fight employee tardiness
MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government said yesterday it will implement a biometric-based attendance system to identify city hall employees who are always absent or tardy in reporting for work.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri said in a statement that the move involving the biometrics system is one of the ways that they would use to discipline city hall employees.
Caloocan City is the third local government in northern Manila to implemented the biometrics system for employees.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the Navotas City government implemented the biometrics-based attendance system last year while Malabon City Mayor Canuto Oreta has also implemented the program to replace the time cards.
Echiverri said the biometrics system being utilized by the Caloocan government entails thumb mark recognition, wherein an employee only needs to swipe their thumb on a device in order to log in or out of work.
