Ex-con back in jail over a kilo of marijuana

- Pete Laude -

MANILA, Philippines - A paroled convicted killer was hauled back to jail after he was arrested for alleged possession of a kilo of marijuana in Caloocan City Friday.

Chief Inspector Bartolome Tarnate, Caloocan City police station anti-illegal drugs unit head, identified the suspect as Roy Alfred Nadurata, 39, resident of Barangay Tugatog in Malabon City.

“The suspect spent 17 years in jail for murder and was paroled only recently, but instead of reforming he was back to his illegal activities,” Tarnate told The STAR yesterday.

A team composed of Police Officer 2 Rommel Alfaro, and Police Officers 1 Louie Aaron Siscar and Richard Jumalon was on patrol along Baltazar street on 10th Avenue in Barangay 60 when they chanced upon Nadurata at around 12:30 p.m.

The policemen saw a package wrapped in old newspaper fall out of a plastic bag Nadurata was holding, and restrained him as they inspected the item.

“It was only by pure chance that the patrolling cops were able to apprehend Nadurata because the chunk he was carrying turned out to be a brick of dried marijuana leaves,” Tarnate said.

He said charges were filed Saturday against Nadurata at the Caloocan City prosecutor’s office with no bail recommended.

He said they are coordinating with the Cagayan police to verify reports that the suspect was also involved in other crimes in the area, where he spent several months after his release from the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa.
