Fires hit Caloocan printing firm, Valenzuela warehouse

MANILA, Philippines – Fires broke out at a printing company in Caloocan City and at a warehouse in Valenzuela City yesterday.

The facilities of Silicon Graphics Designer Group Inc. on C. Cordero street in 2nd Avenue, Caloocan City, including its computerized printing machines, were destroyed.

Fire Officer 2 Noel Soriano said only the second floor of the four-story building owned by businesswoman Josefa Chua-Avena that housed the printing firm was razed.

He said Avena’s brother William Chua owned the razed printing company.

 “The conflagration only reached second alarm and was doused within an hour but it destroyed some P5 million worth high-tech printing equipment, including the firm’s computerized machines,” Soriano told The STAR.

Soriano said they received a fire alarm on 2nd Avenue at around 3 a.m.

City firefighters are still investigating the origin of the fire yesterday. Nobody was reported hurt in the incident.

In Valenzuela City, a warehouse owned by the San Miguel Corp. in Barangay BBB was destroyed in a 30-minute fire that started at around 9:35 a.m. yesterday.

“The blaze was immediately contained because we have a fire station near the area,” Fire Officer 1 Julius Vasquez said.

As of press time yesterday, the Valenzuela arson probers were still investigating what triggered the fire and how much was lost to the flames.
