7,000 village executives pledge support to Aquino
MANILA, Philippines - The 7,000-strong Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas members pledged their unconditional support to the administration of President Aquino.
Ricojudge Echiverri, league president, said the large number of participants during their third national convention last week was an indication of the “full backing” of his group for the current administration.
“We at the Liga ng mga Barangay is one with President Aquino’s aspirations and journey toward our nation’s progress,” Echiverri said.
Mr. Aquino graced the league’s convention where he was warmly welcomed by the more than 7,000 delegates in a “show of force” and unity for his government, Echiverri said.
“The league’s attendance clearly demonstrated the barangay leaders’ full support for the genuine change the present administration is aspiring,” Echiverri said.
Among the major issues tackled during the event were the different benefits long due to barangay leaders as mandated under Section 393 of the Local Government Code.
It was also during the affair that the delegates handed to Mr. Aquino a resolution requesting the postponement of the barangay elections scheduled this October.
