Caloocan urges residents to use garbage bins

- Pete Laude -

MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government urged yesterday residents to use garbage bins as it is set to distribute more of them at public places.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri directed Environmental Sanitation Services (ESS) chief Alfonso Sta. Maria to spearhead the distribution of trash baskets in places frequented by people including churches, schools and police stations.

Echiverri also ordered the ESS head to help educate residents in proper waste disposal and on how to create cash out of their trash.

“Once residents learn to adopt the proper way of disposing of their trash, they may also earn from it by separating recyclable materials which they could sell to junk shops,” the mayor said.

The city government is strongly pushing its reduce, reuse, recycle, and segregate trash reduction program.

It earlier distributed “color-coded” garbage bins to the city’s 188 barangays for the village leaders to serve as examples in the proper disposal of wastes.

Echiverri said that making garbage bins more visible to the public would also serve as a reminder for them to always segregate their rubbish as the way of helping delay the effects of climate change.
