Manila cops nab 'prominent' motorists using sirens

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila Police District (MPD) drive against the unauthorized use of wang-wang (sirens) and blinkers did not spare prominent owners of private vehicles.

In a report to MPD intelligence chief Superintendent Ernesto Fojas Jr., anti-car theft and hijacking head Chief Inspector Randy Maluyo said two sirens and six blinkers were seized from the vehicles of Commission on Elections director Divina Flores, National Bureau of Investigation agent Yan Kit Benny Wong, and son of former Chief Justice Claudio Teehankee, Rafael Claudio Teehankee III, at checkpoints in Malate and Quiapo.

“In fairness to these prominent owners, they did not raise a howl when my men removed and seized the illegal gadgets from their vehicles. This also proves that the citizenry is following the example set by President Aquino,” Maluyo told The STAR.

The owners were issued property receipts for their sirens and blinkers.

Mr. Aquino directed all government officials to do away with the use of sirens and blinkers in his inauguration speech.
