Sexagenarian shoots self in Quezon City

MANILA, Philippines - An 63-year-old man shot himself in the head Saturday night in his family’s house in Novaliches, Quezon City.

Retired bank employee Eduardo Yu was already lifeless when he was found by family members at past 11 p.m. in the bathroom of their house in Kingspoint Subdivision, Barangay Bagbag.

Police Officer 3 Modestino Juanson said Yu shot himself in the head using a .9 mm Beretta handgun.

According to the man’s widow, Lulu, they were already in their bedroom on the second floor that night when he left and proceeded to the bathroom on the ground floor.

Lulu thought her husband would only relieve himself until she heard a gunshot from the ground floor. Together with their daughter, Lulu went to the bathroom and was shocked to find Yu’s body lying on the floor.

Investigators have yet to determine what could have pushed the man to take his own life since they could not yet interview Yu’s grieving relatives.

Police said Yu is the fourth person to commit suicide this week in the city. Since Sunday last week, a man and woman died by hanging themselves while a man jumped into a creek and drowned.
