Goat meat vendor kills another over price war

MANILA, Philippines - A price war over chevon (goat meat) led one vendor to stab dead another at a meat shop Friday night in Quezon City.

Senior Police Officer 2 Neil Garnace said Jimbo Torrico, 27, died from two deep stab wounds in the back.

Torrico’s alleged assailant, identified only as a “Jonjon,” fled soon after the incident, which happened at around 7:30 p.m. along Commonwealth Avenue. Both victim and suspect sold goat meat and also worked as butchers for the Jun Liit Goat Meat Shop, where the stabbing occurred.

The STAR gathered that the suspect resented Torrico’s selling his goat meat at P220 per kilo when the going price in the market was P250.

The suspect felt slighted that his colleague undercut him and “stole” his regular buyers from him.

Because of the lower price offered by the victim, buyers including the suspect’s “suki” or regular clients, chose to get their supply from Torrico.

Police said when confronted by the suspect Friday night, Torrico kept quiet and retreated into the meat shop, but the suspect followed him and stabbed him twice in the back with a butcher’s knife. Torrico died while being taken to the hospital.
