DOH asks wave board users to wear safety gear

- Sheila Crisostomo -

MANILA, Philippines - Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral has asked children and teenagers to wear helmets, kneepads and elbow pads when using roller blades, skateboards and wave boards.

“Likewise, they are advised not to use these products on the roads and other public pathways,” she said. “Children should only use these products under direct adult supervision.”

When buying these products, one should check the packaging, specifically the license number issued by the DOH with corresponding safety label, Cabral said.

Wave boards are similar to skate boards but the board rides on two independently pivoting platforms. Each platform has its own one-wheel caster.

The platforms are connected by a torsion bar that enables them to pivot the X-axis and allow the rider to grind across the roads and other surfaces by balancing.
