Flood slows SLEX traffic

- Aie Balagtas See -

MANILA, Philippines - More than five hours of congested traffic flow burdened motorists who traversed the southbound portion of South Luzon Expressway after a sudden heavy rainfall caused floods in Sucat, Parañaque yesterday.

Skyway radio operator Leo Estudillo told The STAR that about a hundred meter stretch, starting from Water Fun to a food chain branch in West Service Road, had been submerged under knee-high water from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

The incident temporarily paralyzed the vehicles coming in and out of the Sucat interchange, thus, affecting the vehicular flow starting from Villamor Air Base in Pasay City. Estudillo blamed clogged drainages in Sucat as the main source of the problem, saying there would be no flood had drains been cleared off of garbage, particularly plastic materials.

As of 2 p.m. yesterday the traffic flow has yet to normalize, Estudillo said.
