Blow to the head kills carpenter

MANILA, Philippines - A carpenter died after a head punch inflicted by still unidentified suspects yesterday in Quezon City.

Police identified the victim as Silvino Gallon Jr., 37, native of Sorsogon and resident of De Gloria Extension in Barangay Batasan Hills. Gallon died of suspected internal bleeding in the head after getting into a drunken argument with unidentified suspects.

Prior to the punching, Gallon was seen drinking with friends on De Gloria extension at around 6 p.m. Monday.

The victim allegedly stood up to answer the call of nature and went in front of a house across a dark portion of the street. It was then that the suspects came and confronted him.

Witnesses said they saw one suspect throw a punch in the victim’s face causing him to fall backwards unconscious to the pavement. The suspects fled as the victim was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment.

Gallon was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Mark Abad. The body has since been taken to the Crime Lab Services for autopsy.
