Leak at LPG station causes traffic jam near domestic airport

MANILA, Philippines - The flow of vehicular traffic in the vicinity of the Manila Domestic Airport was snarled for nearly one hour after a leak was reported at a Manila Autogas liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling station in Pasay City yesterday morning.

SFO1 Rizalito Arroyo said Domestic Road and Andrews Avenue were closed at about 6:25 a.m. and was reopened around 25 minutes later. Manila Autogas operations manager Rene Manio, in a statement, said the leak was discovered at 6 a.m.

It was declared under control 7:20 a.m., said Senior Superintendent Raul Petrasanta.

“No one was harmed in the incident, no explosion happened and most of all everyone is safe. The gasmen on duty made the best move in contacting the fire department immediately to avoid possible fire,” Manio said, adding the road’s closure was part of the safety measure.

Manio also allayed fears and said the LPG leak would not catch fire without any naked flame.

The operation of the Manila Autogas Domestic Road branch has been temporarily suspended until “all safety requirements have been made,” said Manio.
