Binondo cops raid mini-shabu lab

- Nestor Etolle -

MANILA, Philippines - Police raided a kitchen-type shabu laboratory in Binondo, Manila Monday night following the arrest of two foreigners for possessing an undetermined quantity of the illegal drug.

Meisic police station chief Superintendent Rogelio Rosales Jr. said several containers of sodium hydroxide, ethanol, hydrochloric acid and red phosphorus – chemicals used in the manufacture of shabu – were found in an apartment along Aguilar street.

He also said there were some plastic containers with what they believe to be “cooked shabu.”

Police discovered the laboratory after arresting Hong Kong national Liang Hung-Hui, 31, and Taiwanese national Ko Kwon Ping, 46, who were seen handling sachets of white powder in front of the apartment.

Their neighbors said several boxes containing bottles of chemicals had been delivered to the apartment.

Barangay chairman Vicente Tan also told police that the foreigners rented the apartment two weeks ago.

Rosales said the mini-laboratory could easily manufacture at least a kilo of shabu in a single day.
