Drunk man kills mother in Caloocan

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested a factory worker for stabbing his mother to death during a drunken rage in Caloocan City at dawn yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Ronwaldo Bermudes said Jessie Espayos, 40, is facing charges of parricide for allegedly killing his 82-year-old mother, Matilde Espayos, a resident of Barangay 19.

“We failed to recover the knife used in the crime, but the suspect’s own kin stood witness against him,” Bermudes told The STAR.

Police said that Jessie started drinking with his friends Friday night until dawn, then went to his mother’s house at around 6 a.m. and attacked her. Matilde suffered wounds in the neck and chest.

Jessie reportedly resented his mother’s refusal to allow him to put up a shanty beside her house because she was only renting the lot.

Police Officer 3 Renato de Leon, Police Officer 2 Edgar Manapat and Bermudes arrested the suspect before he could escape.

Police scheduled the suspect for a drug test yesterday afternoon to determine whether he was also high on drugs when he allegedly killed his mother.
