Teen killed by speeding taxi

MANILA, Philippines - A teenager was killed by a speeding taxicab in Quezon City early yesterday morning.

Traffic authorities said the teenage boy, who remains unidentified, was ran over by a speeding taxi in a hit-and-run case at about 2:30 a.m.

The victim, about 16 years old, fair-skinned, with short-cropped hair, and wearing white shirts and shorts, sustained severe injuries in the head and body. His feet were also severed.

The Quezon City Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit (QCPDTEU) said MMDA rescuer Salvy Siazon found the victim.

Siazon said he saw the victim sprawled on the pavement at the U-turn slot of EDSA’s southbound lane in Muñoz at around 2:40 a.m. yesterday. He took the victim to the East Avenue Medical Center where he was declared dead on arrival.

Traffic authorities coordinated with the Land Transportation Office for verification and information on the driver’s identity.
