MANILA, Philippines – Two cousins found themselves caught up in a volley of gunshots intended for another relative, who was attacked by two men late night on Saturday in Quezon City.
The perceived target, Ralph Mediana, 21, died during treatment at past 11 p.m. at Malvar General Hospital because of gunshot wounds in the head, stomach and left knee. Another victim, Lee Marvin Mediana, 27, was dead on arrival at the hospital at past 10 p.m. because of gunshot wounds in the chin and neck. Their cousin, Mark Lloyd Mediana, 18, remains confined at East Avenue Medical Center for a gunshot wound in the left leg.
Case investigator Police Offi-cer 3 Joselito Gagaza said the two still unidentified suspects remain at large after fleeing on foot. Gagaza believes Ralph was the real target of the suspects, who he said may have been from a rival group in the community.
Gagaza said the killing happened at around 10 p.m. near the victims’ houses where they were drinking liquor with four other friends. In the middle of the drinking session, the two suspects, wearing bull caps to conceal their identities, arrived, pulled their handguns and fired at the other group.
One of those from the group informed the victims’ relatives after the suspects had left and brought the three to the hospital.
