MMDA starts cleanup of campaign materials
MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started the cleanup of all election campaign materials that have littered the major streets of Metro Manila.
MMDA Chairman Oscar Inocentes said the agency, through its Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group and Landscape Management Office, intends to finish the cleanup by the end of this week.
Today’s clearing operation will focus on Metro Manila’s major roads such as EDSA, C-5 Road, Commonwealth Avenue, Marcos Highway, Quirino Avenue, Roxas Boulevard, Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard, Araneta Avenue, McArthur Highway, and Road 10, according to Inocentes.
But according to MMDA General Manager Robert Nacianceno, the clearing groups will have difficulty removing posters and leaflets pasted on the walls of buildings and along the sidewalks. To solve the problem, the MMDA purchased gallons of a special chemical that will melt down the posters.
