SC affirms Reyes as Taguig congressman
MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed Angelito Reyes, son of former energy secretary Angelo Reyes, as the winner in the congressional race in Taguig City in 2007.
In a five-page decision penned by Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta, the high court upheld the decision of the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal (HRET) declaring that Reyes won in the election by a margin of 37 votes against his rival Henry Dueñas Jr. as representative for 2nd district of Taguig City.
It dismissed for lack of merit the petition of Dueñas seeking to nullify the Feb. 25, 2010 HRET decision on the ground that the tribunal committed grave abuse of discretion when it decided in 2008 to continue with the revision of ballots in the remaining 75 percent of the counter-protested precincts.
