MANILA, Philippines - A mayoralty bet in Las Piñas City was arrested by operatives of the Southern Police District following complaints filed by several residents that the former is engaged in the selling of fake identification cards (IDs).
Senior Superintendent Adolfo Samala of the SPD-Intelligence Division identified the suspect as Felix Sinajon, 71, of Talon Uno, Las Piñas City. The local Commission on Elections office confirmed Sinajon is Liberal Party’s mayoralty candidate in the city.
A second suspect, Gloria Guerrero, 48, was also nabbed by police authorities.
Samala said the group being led by Sinajon is engaged in the selling of IDs with label that reads Filipino Alliance Movement Support Group and bore logos of the Commission on Human Rights, Department of Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Patrol 117 and the National Press Club.
The group alleged that the card would entitle the bearer to a 50-percent discount in establishments such as moviehouses and theaters located in the city. However, the victims later found out they were just duped by Sinajon.
Sinajon and Guerrero were arrested in an entrapment operation conducted inside an eatery located along Talon Uno Highway in Las Piñas Thursday afternoon.
The two suspects are now being held at the SPD headquarters while estafa case is now being readied against them.
