MANILA, Philippines - Traffic slowed to a crawl for around three hours along a portion of EDSA in San Juan yesterday morning due to a water pipe that burst and flooded the road with around 20,000 liters of water.
Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Benjardi Mantele said he deployed police officers to the corner of EDSA and Connecticut street when the pipe burst at around 4:45 a.m.
He said the policemen facilitated the flow of vehicular traffic until Manila Water Corp. brought the problem under control.
Manila Water president Jose Rene Almendras said the continued pounding of trucks plying EDSA caused a major steel water pipe, installed in the 1980s, to burst.
He vowed to complete repairs by today to restore water service to 1,000 affected service connections in Greenhills.
Manila Water has mobilized watering tanks to ration water to affected households and businesses.
