Immigration braces for Holy Week arrivals

MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Immigration (BI) commissioner Marcelino Libanan told all immigration officers manning the country’s ports of entry to prepare for the heavy volume of passengers expected to arrive for the Holy Week.

Libanan instructed Ferdinand Sampol, who heads the airport operations division at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), to ensure that his men guard against the possible entry of undesirable aliens.

“We cannot simply let our people down. We assure the traveling public that we are fully prepared for big volume of arriving and departing passengers this coming summer season,” Libanan told Sampol.

Libanan also warned human trafficking syndicates against attempts to smuggle illegal aliens into the country during the Holy Week.

Meanwhile, Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) general manager Melvin Matibag mobilized all units to ensure the smooth flow and orderly operation of all airports in the country, specially the domestic airports.          – Rudy Santos
