Caloocan taps barangay execs vs illegal recruiters

MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government has asked its 188 barangay leaders to help protect jobseekers from unscrupulous recruiters who offer non-existent jobs abroad.

Mayor Enrico Echiverri said one of the “biggest tragedies” for a Filipino family is to have a relative be victimized by an illegal recruiter.

The Anti-Illegal Recruitment (AIR) project of the local government has conducted pre-employment orientation-seminars and information campaigns among barangay officials of Zone 14, 15 and 16 to help warn residents against illegal recruiters.

Echiverri also advised residents not to believe promises of high-paying jobs abroad, especially if those offers are coupled with unbelievably quick processing time.

He urged them to “double check” with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration if a job order for overseas workers exists in a particular country. – Pete Laude
