NBI: Ivler ma refuses to have wound stitched

-

MANILA, Philippines - Road rage murder suspect Jason Ivler’s mother, Marlene Aguilar, refuses to sign a waiver to have her son’s open wound stitched, delaying his discharge and transfer to jail, the National Bureau of Investigation said yesterday.

Palace Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr. earlier accused the family of Ivler of dilatory tactics to prevent the murder suspect’s transfer to Quezon City Jail.

Lawyer Angelito Magno, chief of the National Bureau of Investigation Special Action Unit (SAU), said the NBI has its own doctors to check on the medical condition of Ivler if ever it is needed.

Magno said there is an issue on whether Ivler should be transferred to another hospital.

The Quezon City Jail is already waiting for Ivler’s transfer as the Quezon City regional trial court has already issued a commitment order.

Prosecution lawyers had asked presiding Judge Alexander Balut for another government doctor to examine Ivler.

The NBI said it welcomes a plan to place Ivler in the NBI’s jail while the issue of his transfer to the Quezon City Jail is still pending before the court.

Magno explained that it is very “taxing” when NBI agents are used to secure Ivler in the hospital since the agency has limited manpower.

Twenty-four agents, in two 12-hour shifts, guard Ivler at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center every day.

“The sooner Ivler is discharged, the better,” he said.           – Sandy Araneta
