Woman locks up burglar, calls cops
MANILA, Philippines - A businesswoman caught a burglar in her bedroom, locked him in her apartment and turned him over to police officers in Barangay Bignay, Valenzuela City Tuesday night.
City police chief Senior Superintendent Rainier Idio told The STAR that Nenita de la Cruz, 42, had returned to her apartment at about 6:30 p.m. when she noticed that the main door was forced open and someone was in her second-floor bedroom.
“The man was apparently starting to collect cash and valuables in the room when the owner of the house immediately locked the door from the outside, practically trapping the suspect inside,” Idio said.
De la Cruz then sought the help of Police Officer 3 Resty Cunanan and PO1 Randy Molina, who were patrolling the area. When they opened the door of the house, suspect Edilberto Obena tried to fight the policemen, who subdued and handcuffed him. Obena is jobless, and a resident of the same barangay.
“The suspect tried to justify his presence, saying he was just waiting for the owner of house but cannot explain why,” Idio said.
Police filed charges of attempted robbery, resisting arrest and concealing deadly weapons against Obena, who is detained at the Valenzuela police jail.
