MANILA, Philippines - Police are searching for six still unidentified gunmen who shot dead a 54-year-old trader in the house of his female friend in Quezon City yesterday morning.
Segundo Mateo’s attackers fled the scene on three motorcycles after taking some of the pork the victim and his friend, Marife Eugenio, 29, were selling in front of the latter’s house on Poinsettia street in Gravel Pit, Payatas-A.
Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano said Mateo’s widow, Teresita, told investigators that her husband had no grudge against anyone except Eugenio’s brother, known as “Buddha,” who accused the victim of tipping him off to the police as a suspected drug peddler.
Police are expected to release sketches of the two men who actually shot Mateo. The other four men wore masks and served as lookouts. – Michael Punongbayan
