Ma kills 5-year-old son, stabs 2 in-laws

MANILA, Philippines - A housewife stabbed dead her five-year-old son and attacked her two in-laws in Barangay Upper Bicutan, Taguig City Monday afternoon.

According to witnesses, Annylyn Agutaya, 28, was unusually quiet Monday morning and at about 2:30 p.m., she went to the kitchen and grabbed a kitchen knife.

Police said Agutaya stabbed her son, Zyron, 24 times. She also stabbed her mother-in-law, Eufrocina Agutaya, 60, six times; and sister-in-law Jennelyn Agutaya, 26, once in the back.

Her in-laws were rushed to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital.

Taguig’s Women and Children Protection Center head Chief Inspector Delia Jacob-Ingalla said Agutaya gave birth to her third child a week ago.

Ingalla said that when they arrested Agutaya, investigators failed to talk to her. She gave police officers a blank stare and at times would smile at nothing, she said.

Agutaya was immediately admitted to the National Center for Mental Health in Mandaluyong City. Appropriate charges are being readied against her.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Camilo Cascolan said they learned that Agutaya was among those who witnessed the Glorietta blast incident in 2007, in which 11 people were killed and more than 100 persons hurt.

He said that this could have traumatized Agutaya, who was able to work in Taiwan for sometime.

Taguig Mayor Sigfrido Tiñga condoled with the family and assured them the city government will provide free funeral and burial services.

The mayor also offered to shoulder the hospital expenses of Agutaya’s in-laws.
