NCRPO seeks Verzosa's OK to relieve non-performing station chiefs
MANILA, Philippines - National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief is seeking Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa’s approval to relieve station commanders in Metro Manila who are unable to reduce crimes in their area by 40 percent within three months.
“They have to shape up or be shipped out,” Rosales said, referring to Metro Manila’s 37 station commanders.
He said the goal of reducing crimes by nearly half is “achievable and doable,” and promised to provide additional resources should the station commanders’ units need more personnel or vehicles to carry out their duty more effectively and efficiently.
Rosales, during a command conference Tuesday, briefed the region’s five district directors and 37 station commanders on the number of crimes, especially shootings, which occurred in their areas.
From January to November, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) registered the highest number of street crimes with 1,363 or 36.18 percent of the total number of crimes registered in the area, closely followed by the Manila Police District (MPD) with 1,258 or 33.40 percent. The Southern Police District (SPD) recorded 671 petty crimes or 17.81 percent while the Eastern and Northern Police Districts registered 239 or 6.34 percent, and 236 or 6.26 percent, respectively.
In terms of murders, the Caloocan City police topped the list in the Northern Police District (NPD) with 88 incidents; Pasig City in the Eastern Police District (EPD) and Taguig City in the Southern Police District (SPD) with 32 cases.
The MPD recorded a total of 116 murder cases with 78 of them solved while the QCPD with 61 and 39 incidents or 63.93 percent solved.
Rosales said he asked the station commanders to prepare action plans to reduce the incidents in a three-month period. Those who fail the challenge will be reassigned to the provinces, he said. – Non Alquitran
