Cops hunt for Ivler on Facebook, Friendster

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has turned to Facebook and other social networking sites in its search for road rage murder suspect Jason Aguilar Ivler, who is wanted for the killing of a Malacañang official’s son during a traffic altercation.

“We are looking for him even in Facebook. We are digging into the online accounts of his known associates,” QCPD’s homicide division head, Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, told The STAR.

Police officers are also going through social networking sites Friendster, MySpace, Twitter, and Multiply after failing to find the 27-year old suspect in the Nov. 18 killing of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr, son of Undersecretary Renato Ebarle Sr., who works at Malacañang’s Office of the Chief of Staff.

Elenzano said his men have so far found no one by the name Jason Ivler or Jason Aguilar at these sites, but they did find his known associates.

“We can’t divulge their names because that would be invasion of privacy,” he explained when asked if the cybersearch was successful.

Last week, the QCPD searched three houses in Blue Ridge-A Subdivision, Quezon City, hoping to find Ivler, the son of Marlene Aguilar Pollard, singer Freddie Aguilar’s sister.

Police failed to find Ivler, and his mother and relatives claim they do not know where he is or who is with him.

Malacañang has ordered the Philippine National Police not to allow Ivler to leave the country and escape criminal prosecution.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said while suspect’s stepfather, Asian Development Bank economist Stephen Pollard, has diplomatic status, Ivler himself has no diplomatic immunity.

Meanwhile, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has started posting at least 6,000 posters offering P500,000 for Ivler’s arrest.

NCRPO chief Director Roberto Rosales said the posters listed a lower reward because they were printed days before President Arroyo raised the reward money to P1 million.

Rosales said the monetary reward would be given to anyone who could provide information leading to Ivler’s arrest with “no questions asked.”

The NCRPO chief said an informant can call his cell phone number, 0908-6363413, at any time once Ivler’s presence is established. – With Non Alquitran
