Las Piñas skills center trains 2,000 residents

MANILA, Philippines -  Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel Aguilar announced that more than 2,000 individuals recently graduated from the city’s technical skills training center.

In his speech during the commencement exercises, Aguilar urged the new batch of graduates to be more innovative, to persevere and use their acquired skills to achieve progress.

The skills and manpower training center produces graduates of not less than 2,000 every quarter or 8,000 every year who are Las Piñas residents. It provides free educational skills to those who could not afford to pursue college education because of financial limitations.

The livelihood-training center offers skills development courses that include welding, auto mechanic, computer technician, bar tending and cooking, and related skills, which is in demand locally and abroad.

The trainings are conducted in coordination with the Technical Education and Skills Development Administration (TESDA).

Aguilar, with the support of Sen. Manny Villar, also grant every year a full scholarship to 5,000 students at the Dr. Felimon C. Aguilar Memorial College and at the Dr. Felimon C. Aguilar Information Technology Institute.

He added that Villar’s vision and ideas of helping city residents find gainful employment through skills development and training contribute greatly in making the Las Piñas Training Center an outstanding skills training venue.   – Rhodina Villanueva
