MANILA, Philippines - A retired policeman was shot dead by three motorcycle-riding gunmen during a robbery in Malabon City at past midnight Saturday.
Former Senior Police Officer 2 Delson Ferry, 58, who retired from the police service two years ago, died from a single bullet wound in the stomach.
Dr. Kris Nestor Urian of the Manila Central University (MCU) hospital declared Ferry dead on arrival at around 1:38 a.m.
Police Officer 1 Benjamin Sy Jr., Malabon City police investigator, said Ferry was in a tricycle driven by Rogelio Camilas Jr., 37, on his way home to Kaunlaran Village in Caloocan City from a cockpit in Malabon City when three men on a motorcycle blocked their path along Araneta Avenue in Barangay Potrero.
One of the suspects, holding a handgun, snatched Ferry’s clutch bag but the victim grabbed it back. The robber got off the motorcycle and forced Ferry out of the tricycle.
The gunmen dragged Ferry to the back of the tricycle and shot him once in the stomach.
The suspects took Ferry’s clutch bag and fled on their Honda XRM motorcycle, which had no license plate.
The two other passengers, including Ferry’s son, and the tricycle driver were left unharmed. – Pete Laude
