Slain businessman linked to illegal gambling

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) is looking into the possibility that illegal gambling could be behind the killing of a businessman at a restaurant in La Loma Friday.

QCPD director Chief Superintendent Elmo San Diego said they received reports about victim Delfin Gener’s “alleged records in illegal gambling five to 10 years ago,” and that the businessman was called “Boy Tangkad.”

Chief Inspector Benjamin Elenzano, head of the QCPD’s Homicide Investigation Section, corrected their earlier pronouncement about Gener’s killers.

“Contrary to earlier reports that the two gunmen just barged into the restaurant, we found out from Gener’s driver that the assailants were indeed talking with the victim,” Elenzano said in an interview.

He said the two suspects took Gener’s cellular phone before leaving the restaurant.         – Reinir Padua
