-

MANILA, Philippines - The Quezon City government and the Philippine Postal Corp. launched four commemorative stamps on the occasion of the city’s 70th founding anniversary.

Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Postmaster General Hector Villanueva unveiled the stamps in simple rites held early this week at the city hall grounds.

Quezon City ’s most distinctive landmark, the 66-meter high Quezon Memorial Circle pylon, is featured in the first stamp, which also shows a classic marble statue of President Manuel Luis Quezon, the city’s founding father, and the Philippine flag.

The Araneta Coliseum in Cubao is featured in the second stamp while the third bears the image of the Eastwood City Cyberpark. Eastwood City, a 17-hectare commercial and residential development area touted as the country’s first information technology zone.

Quezon City’s seat of government, the imposing 14-story city hall building, is featured in the fourth stamp. Completed in 1976, the city hall building forms part of the 12-hectare civic center compound that houses both the executive and legislative branches of the city government, as well as the judiciary and various national government agencies.

Belmonte also led city officials in the unveiling of the Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio monuments at the QC Hall compound. The city government spent P7.1 million for the two monuments, which were both cast in bronze.   – Perseus Echeminada
