Quezon town mayor, driver hurt in SLEX smashup

-

MANILA, Philippines - A mayor of Quezon province and his driver were seriously injured after their vehicle collided with a truck along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) in Taguig City before dawn yesterday.

According to initial police reports, Gumaca Mayor Joy Cabangon and his driver, Ramil Revilla, 24, were on their way to Manila at around 4 a.m. when a “DMCI” truck (UCC-229) suddenly emerged from a construction site along SLEX. Revilla was unable to avoid the truck and their Montero sport utility vehicle hit it at high speed.

Police said the truck driver fled the area.

The Highway Patrol Group impounded the truck at the AAP Towing Service Storage along the East Service Road in Taguig City.

Police said Cabangon and Revilla were rushed to the South Superhighway Medical Center, though Cabangon was later transferred to the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City. – Jose Rodel Clapano
