Drunk guard guns down boss

MANILA, Philippines - A drunk security guard shot dead his superior, who had accosted him for drinking while manning his post at the compound of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) in Quezon City.

Victim Renato Almine, 43, of Lifeguard Arcangel Security Corporation and assistant detachment commander of security guards detailed at the Pagasa compound, was killed on the spot Friday night.

According to Senior Police Officer 2 Juan Mortel, Alamine was conducting an inspection of the compound at around 10 p.m. and found that Reymond Monreal, who was the security guard on duty at the lobby of Pagasa’s Data Information Center, was intoxicated.

Alamine confronted Monreal, and this resulted in a heated argument. The suspect then allegedly took his service firearm, a 12-gauge shotgun, and fired at Almine, shattering the left side of the victim’s face.

Monreal, 38, fled the scene but was later found by responding village watchmen, still carrying the shotgun, Mortel said.      – Reinir Padua
