Quezon City councilor seeks stiff penalties vs erring contractors

-

MANILA, Philippines - A member of the Quezon City Council has filed an ordinance imposing stiffer penalties on contractors who fail to clean up their completed projects of construction debris.

Councilor Dorothy Delarmente in her proposed measure wants violators punished with a fine of P5,000 and their business permit cancelled. The proposed measure considers it unlawful for any contractor to leave his finished projects without having cleaned the site of any debris like earth mounds, sand stockpile, open excavation and other construction materials that would cause accidents.

Earlier, Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. also aired his concern over the inability of some contractors to clear their work site of debris after project completion. According to Belmonte, construction debris poses danger to motorists and commuters alike particularly during heavy downpour, considering these materials greatly contribute to the clogging of waterways. – Perseus Echeminada
