NBI Director Nestor Mantaring identified the suspect as Senior Inspector Alvin Nisperos, who was formerly assigned at the San Juan police station, but is considered absent without official leave from the police force. He graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy in 2000.

The NBI-Legaspi District Office (LEGDO) arrested Nisperos on Aug. 20 while he was traveling to a town in Guinobatan, Albay.

Nisperos faces estafa charges before Makati Metropolitan Trial Court Branch 66 and Pasig Regional Trial Court Branches 268, 264, 155, 68, and 264; four counts of violating the anti-bouncing check law before the San Juan MTC Branch 58; a violation of domicile charge at the Pasig MTC Branch 69; and a car theft charge at the Pili, Camarines Sur RTC Branch 32.

Nisperos was also implicated in a pyramiding scam being investigated by the NBI, which also involved Maria Teresa Santos Trading.
