Foundation sponsors singer's surgery

MANILA, Philippines - The Calayan Surgicenter Foundation sponsored an operation done Friday on singer Selina Sevilla to remove silicon oil and necrotic tissue from her buttocks, the result of what she claims to be a botched buttock augmentation procedure done by a quack doctor.

Four doctors, led by cosmetic surgeon Manny Calayan, took three hours to reconstruct Sevilla’s buttocks and remove the oil, which is normally used as an industrial lubricant, according to his niece, Lalen Calayan, who works for the clinic.

“Sevilla’s buttocks (are) no longer disfigured though the operation left a big scar,” the younger Calayan told The STAR, adding that the scar can be easily removed through another procedure.

Calayan said Sevilla suffered from gluteal necrosis due to the silicon oil injection.

She said Sevilla is the first celebrity beneficiary of the Calayan Surgicenter Foundation, which was established last month to help indigents with inborn defects and victims of quack doctorss who do not have the capacity to pay for reconstructive procedures.

Calayan said the foundation provides free services to patients for non-aesthetic operations they really need. She said a case of gluteal necrosis secondary to silicon oil injection or implant would cost a patient around P200,000 per session.

Last month, Sevilla – Sharon Simon in real life – filed a complaint before the National Bureau of Investigation against the doctor who did the butt augmentation procedure. The doctor denied her allegation and threatened to charge her with libel.
