Quezon City councilors want roads named after ex-mayors
MANILA, Philippines - Two Quezon City councilors have proposed renaming roads around the city hall compound after the city’s former mayors.
The proposed ordinance was filed by Councilors Alexis Grace Matias and Jaime Borres after Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. gave his approval during a recent executive staff meeting.
Belmonte said the move is one way of recognizing former mayors’ contributions to the city’s growth and development and would make it easier for motorists and the transacting public to find their way to offices and buildings at the city hall compound.
Past city mayors were Tomas Morato, Ponciano Bernardo, Nicanor Roxas, Ignacio Santos-Diaz, Norberto Amoranto, Adelina Rodriguez, Brigido Simon Jr. and Ismael Mathay Jr.
Those appointed as city mayors were Gregorio Felipe, Dr. Florencio Cruz, Oscar Castelo and Sabino de Leon.
Belmonte is also considering renaming some of the city’s main roads after heroes or city pioneers.
Several city streets were already renamed this year, including a portion of Jamboree street to GMA Network Drive, the Manila Gravel Pit Road to Payatas Road, and the Pelaez Extension street to Pedro Cruz Martinez street to honor the man who served as the city’s first elected barangay captain. – Perseus Echeminada
