2 Chinese yield P24 million worth of shabu

MANILA, Philippines - Police arrested two Chinese nationals who allegedly yielded some four kilos of shabu with a street value of some P24 million during a buy-bust operation around noon Tuesday in Valenzuela City.

Northern Police District director Chief Superintendent Samuel Pagdilao Jr. identified the suspects as Tony Go, alias Tony Chua, 36, a resident of Barangay Canumay in Valenzuela City, and Lang Ong, 34, a resident of Timog Avenue in Quezon City.

The suspects are both natives of Fukien, China, Pagdilao said.

The NPD anti-narcotics unit, led by Chief Inspector Jay Agcaoili and the National Capital Region-Regional Police Intelligence Operations Unit headed by Superintendent Leo Francisco arrested the suspects along T. Santiago street in Barangay Canumay at around 11 a.m. Go was driving a silver gray Honda Civic (XGY-393) with Ong as passenger when police busted them.

Pagdilao said Go and Ong are members of an international drug syndicate whose three other members, one a chemist and all Chinese nationals, were also arrested last March in Cainta, Rizal, wherein a P160 million worth of metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu was seized in the suspects’ drug laboratory.

“It was Go that we were able to arrange a deal of P400,000 worth of shabu. We lured him to meet us in Barangay Canumay,” Agcaoili told The STAR.

He said they pounced on Go as he handed the shabu to a police poseur-buyer and a search of the suspects’ vehicle resulted in the confiscation of more illegal drugs.

Metro police director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales said the arrest of Tony Go alias Tony Chua and Ong was part of the all-out war declared by President Arroyo, the country’s drug czar, against illegal drugs. Go and Ong gave themselves up peacefully.

However, they choose to remain silent regarding their drug-peddling operations in Metro Manila.

“We put him under surveillance after we arrested two Chinese nationals last month in Manila. We contacted them and arranged a test buy and they were arrested in the process,” said Rosales in an interview.
