Policemen raid Quezon City house

MANILA, Philippines - Policemen yesterday raided a house in Quezon City with alleged links to a syndicate behind the tampering and re-selling of stolen vehicles.

Superintendent Napoleon Cauyan, project officer of the operation, said yesterday’s raid was connected with the recent operation on “fixers” and those manufacturing fake documents at the Land Transportation Office.

Cauyan has been tapped by National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rosales to spearhead the campaign against the supposed big-time syndicate involved in carjacking and the re-selling of stolen vehicles. Cauyan told The STAR that after their raid on stalls outside the LTO, they found documents pertaining to fake papers for the supposedly stolen motorcycles.

During the raid yesterday, Cauyan said seven motorcycles parked inside the compound were the same ones for which the supposedly falsified car papers were made.

Armed with a search warrant issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 222 against house owner Dante Chua, an NCRPO team accompanied by The STAR swooped down yesterday afternoon on the compound in Barangay Sangandaan where the posh multi-level house was located. They were searching for the supposedly stolen Nissan Patrol and eight motorcycles and their allegedly falsified certificates of registration.

Chua was not at the house and, while talking to Cauyan over the phone, claimed he was out of town. Chua’s nephew told The STAR that the seven motorcycles and a green Ford F150 parked in the garage were just pawned to Chua by a company.

The nephew, who said Chua was engaged in textile business, claimed the vehicles had been parked there for about a year. However, the nephew and other members of the household could not present documents pertaining to the supposed pawning of the vehicles.

According to Cauyan, Chua is facing charges of car theft, falsification of public document and violation of the Anti-Fencing Law.
