Parañaque mayor undergoes heart bypass

MANILA, Philippines - Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe who is said to be suffering from a heart ailment, was operated yesterday in an undisclosed hospital in Metro Manila.

The city’s Media Bureau Office said the operation—a “preventive bypass operation” was successful and that the mayor could possibly be staying in the hospital’s recovery room now.

A personnel of the MBO, however, said they only know a few details of the mayor’s operation and condition since the family was not really speaking openly about it.

The source said they were surprised upon learning that Bernabe has heart problems since the latter never complained of anything before.

Vice Mayor Gustavo Tambunting will be the acting mayor while Bernabe is on leave until such time the he fully recovers from the major operation.

In a memorandum issued by Tambunting, he requested all city hall employees and residents to attend a special Mass at the St. Anthony de Padua Church in Parañaque City on Sunday afternoon.   – Rhodina Villanueva
