PNP bares new mascot
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) unveiled yesterday its new mascot, named Officer Badge of Honor or BOH for short.
“The new mascot was launched to mark this month’s celebration of police community relations,” said Chief Superintendent Nicanor Bartolome, head of the PNP’s Police Community Relations Group (PCRG).
He said PNP officials hope Officer BOH will help the police reach out to the public and aid in the dissemination of anti-crime tips.
According to Bartolome, each police officer should not just see his or her badge as simply a part of the uniform but a badge of honor that symbolizes the special calling of a law enforcer.
Asked about Officer BOH’s resemblance to Robocop, a Hollywood film character, Bartolome said though they have not coordinated with any firm possibly holding rights to the character’s image, they have not received complaints.
The mascot will be giving out pamphlets at the University Belt area, at various Metro Rail Transit stations, and in the provinces until the end of the month.
