Abortionist caught in makeshift clinic
MANILA, Philippines – Police arrested an alleged abortionist during an entrapment operation Thursday night at the suspect’s makeshift clinic in Navotas City.
Chief Inspector Jerome Balbontin, Northern Police District intelligence operation unit chief, said Sofronio Victuelles, 63, was arrested as he was about to perform an abortion on the “disguised confidential informant.”
Police seized from him P5,000 marked money and a loaded .38 caliber revolver.
Victuelles, when asked about his alleged illegal activity, admitted to being only a “helper” to a certain Olivia, who is the “real abortionist,” for P500 to P1,000 for every operation.
Olivia was not around when the police arrested Victuelles, who said he was about to retire as a maternity hospital employee this year and was only forced to accept Olivia’s offer out of necessity.
Balbontin said yesterday they will file appropriate charges against the suspect with the Navotas City prosecutor’s office. – Pete Laude
