Speeding driver kills 4 kids, grandmother

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines – The Parañaque police is set to file charges against a 40-year-old woman who allegedly ran over and killed four children and their grandmother while driving along C-5 Road extension in Barangay San Dionisio Sunday afternoon.

Police Officer 3 Jose Adducul of the Parañaque Traffic Enforcement Unit identified the suspect as Maria Victoria Abiog, a resident of G. Miranda street in Philamlife Homes, Las Piñas City. Abiog, who also sustained injuries from the accident, was brought to the Olivarez General Hospital for treatment.

Abiog’s son, Justine Kay Tengco, 16, was also killed. He was reportedly seated at the back of the CRV and was thrown out of the vehicle. Tengco was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

Police investigators said a case of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide is being readied against Abiog.

Police records showed that at about 2:40 p.m., victims John Christian Alde, 10; John Lloyd Alde, 11; Jomari Bravo Alde, 4; and Jericho Divinaflor, 8, together with their grandmother Nenita Lopez, 62, were crossing the street when they were hit by the Honda CRV (ZAS-852) driven by Abiog.

Inspector Reynando de la Peña, also of the City Traffic Office, said Abiog came from her house in Las Piñas and was driving to Parañaque on the northbound lane when she tried to avoid a vehicle on her right.

The CRV swerved, climbed over the center island, landed on the southbound lane and hit the victims. The five victims were brought at the Las Piñas District Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

Police said Abiog was speeding and was not able to control the vehicle.
