Man found dead in National Railway power supply room

- Jerry Botial -

MANILA, Philippines – A still unidentified man was found dead, apparently from electrocution, in the power supply room of the Philippine National Railway (PNR) compound in Caloocan City yesterday.

Police theorized the man wanted to steal some of the copper wire in the power supply room and touched a live cable in the process.

Senior Inspector Albert Arturo, Scene of the Crime Operations team leader, described the man as about 5’3” tall, heavily built, dark-complexioned, barefoot, and wearing a blue shirt and black trousers. He also bore a tribal design tattoo on his chest.

Railway workers told The STAR the man was not one of them and that they did not know him.

Funeral home workers called to the scene found it difficult to extricate the body from under a tangle of thick wires in the restricted area as rigor mortis had already set in.

Arturo said after a cursory inspection they found no visible external signs of injury. He noted that blood was oozing from the victim’s nose when found.

Maintenance worker Ever Delfin, 27, told The STAR, he was about to turn on the main switch to start the afternoon shift at 2 p.m. when he found the victim’s body.

Senior Police Officer 1 Carlos Almario ruled out the possibility that the dead man could have entered through an open window near the roof as no footprints were found in and around the area. The man could have snuck inside when the workshop area opened in the morning. Police said they are investigating the incident further.
